Why Electronic Warfare Systems Are the Shield of Modern War

The widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has dramatically reshaped the nature of combat in the full-scale russian-Ukrainian war. The global community is witnessing a new stage in the evolution of warfare: our war is now often referred to as a “war of drones,” and electronic warfare (EW) systems have become one of the key tools protecting Ukrainian troops on the front lines. In this environment, EW is critical in countering enemy reconnaissance, artillery targeting, and aerial attacks.

The Role of Electronic Warfare in the War

The enemy is actively deploying drones to detect Ukrainian troop positions, guide artillery fire, and deliver explosives. In response, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are increasingly employing modern EW systems capable of disrupting drone control, communication, and navigation channels. This makes it possible to neutralize or jam drones before they reach their targets.

Air Assault Forces Require Portability and Mobility

Particular attention should be paid to EW systems developed specifically for Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces. These units often operate in difficult conditions – they move quickly, are frequently isolated from the main forces, and conduct missions either on the front lines or deep behind enemy lines. That’s why they need not fixed installations, but lightweight, portable electronic warfare devices that can be quickly deployed, transported, and adapted to changing combat scenarios.

In today’s fast-moving war, where the front is constantly shifting and mission parameters change daily, the ability to rapidly deploy or relocate an EW system is crucial. Portable EW devices enable immediate response to threats, protecting mobile units, command posts, equipment, and even individual infantry squads. These are by far more than just “jammers” – they are critical components in the broader fight for information dominance on the battlefield.

VIK-2K – Reliable Defense in a Backpack

One such effective electronic warfare system is the VIK-2K, a portable device designed specifically for the needs of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces. Its primary function is to jam drone control and communication channels in key frequency ranges (2350–2480 MHz and 5700–5880 MHz), which UAVs like the DJI Mavic and others widely use.

Thanks to its 100-watt power output, the VIK-2K can disable drones mid-flight, preventing them from getting close to their target. At the same time, it boasts a number of features that make it ideal for frontline deployment:

  • Weight under 10 kg
  • Versatile antenna mounting (backpack, tripod, or handheld)
  • Up to 2 hours of autonomous operation
  • Power supply via battery or standard 220V outlet
  • Fully equipped for field deployment

To sum up, EW systems, especially portable ones, are now indispensable tools for the modern military. In an environment saturated with drones and communication tech, these devices give Ukrainian troops the ability to remain undetected, stay alive, and accomplish their missions.

The VIK-2K and similar EW systems have already proven their effectiveness and should become standard gear for every mobile unit on the battlefield.
